About Me!

Samuel Rosas

Hey, I’m Sam! I’m just a geek that loves computers and what makes them run. I love exploring different software, old and new, I have a passion for photography which I try to do when I’m out and about, and I also collect retro or interesting tech on which I stumble upon.

Photography

I currently have a Canon EOS 6D camera that I got Christmas of 2024, and for the year that I’ve had it, I’ve been loving it. Sure, it’s a bit old (2012), but it takes some beautiful photos, and surprisingly still has the ability to connect to your phone through Wi-Fi. I’m planning to upload some of the pictures that I take on this website so stay tuned!

Technology that I own

Over the years, I have collected all sorts of tech, from phones to music players to laptops…you get the point. Here is a mostly complete list of all of the technology I have, alongside their approximate year I acquired them.

Software I use

For photography editing and fine-tuning, I use Apple Aperture (not anymore, planning to use Adobe Lightroom), a discontinued but useful and powerful piece of software that allows to see and edit my pictures how I want.

For video editing, I am using CapCut because it’s simple, and easy to use, and has lots of resources. However, since I’m getting a more powerful computer this Christmas, I plan to learn and utilize DaVinci Resolve for any future projects. DaVinci Resolve seems like a better, easier to learn and use alternative from Adobe Premier Pro, and it’s free, so there’s that.

And OS-wise, I have a 15″ M4 MacBook Air running macOS 26 Tahoe with 16 GB of RAM. I am pretty happy with the system itself, it’s a major improvement to what I had before, plus longer battery life, better performance, and it’s beautiful and sharp retina display. It’s also impressively light, my old laptop used to add so much weight to my backpack, so this actually saved me from future back pains, so hooray!!

I have a home server set up in my office using components from 2008, but either way, runs pretty well, and it’s pretty capable. My home server is running Umbrel OS, a custom version of Linux meant to turn any computer you have lying around into a home server, which allows me to host and interact with the server easily.

I used to use Windows 11 on my old main computer, a Lenovo Yoga 7, which was a pretty powerful system itself, but unfortunately I’m relying on only 5.7 GB out of the installed 8 GB, which technically leaves me with around 2 GB to utilize in programs.

Task Manager on my old main computer showing the 5.7 GB of RAM out of the installed 8 gigs.

That’s it for now…

Thanks for reading ’till the end, I hope you continue to follow my journey, and hopefully I post on my website blog page often. Also I plan to upload some pictures from my trips, so stay tuned for that, too! See ya!
